On January 15, 2020, is the 70th birth anniversary of Tamara Aksyonova. She was the veteran of the National Library of Belarus and a highly qualified specialist in the field of library and bibliographical activities as well as an experienced leader, a capable organizer and an active public figure.

The staff of the National Library of Belarus is still remembering her with the respect and awe as a modest, sincere and tactful person with a highly developed sense of responsibility, exceptional hard work, integrity and perseverance in solving of any tasks.

23-year-old Tamara was sent to work at the State Library of the BSSR named after V.I.Lenin in 1973, immediately after graduation Minsk State Pedagogical Institute named after M.Gorky. She specialized in bibliography science and worked as the bibliographer of the Book Chamber (a part of the library structure).

In March 1977, she was transferred to the Scientific and Bibliographic Department as a Senior Bibliographer, where she headed one of the difficult sections for preparing an annotated card for Belarusian publications. Tamara Aksyonova actively worked on the preparation of reference books and materials for the newsletter New Books of the BSSR. She prepared and published bibliographic indexes of literature, such as Parenting Youth - An Integrated Approach and Youth and the Law, as well as a number of recommendatory literature lists on relevant topics in collections of methodological and bibliographic materials for anniversaries. She made a huge contribution to the development of a recommendatory bibliography and to the development of a methodology for compiling thematic manuals, pointers and lists devoted to socio-political issues as a professional.

She was actively engaged in methodological work as the professional, she provided editorial and consulting assistance to the library staff on the bibliographic description.
Tamara Aksyonova was awarded the Excellence in Library Work title and confirmed the title annually with high performance after only three years of work in the library.

In 1983 T. Aksyonova was appointed to the post of the Scientific Secretary of the State Library of the BSSR named after V. Lenin. At this place, she introduced a number of business proposals, directed toward the improvement of the planning activities and reports of the library, as well as the application of the scientific organization of labor. She paid attention to the coordination of the scientific libraries’ work, as well as to the development of master plans in her practical activities.

In 1990 she became the Deputy Director for the Library Work and contributed to the stable functioning of the library during the transitional period for our country with the accumulated experience and deep knowledge of library activities, by devoting herself to the profession.

Tamara Aksyonova skilfully combined the practical activities of a leader and the scientific work. She has prepared a number of publications on the issues of linguistic support of electronic catalogs, the problems of the information resources integration, the creation of a database of national authoritative records.

In addition to her professional activities, she had been conducting public work for many years. She was repeatedly elected for the Secretary of the Komsomol Organization mandate and the Secretary of the Library Party Organization, the Chairman of the National Control Group and the Member of the Local Library Committee. She was a freelance instructor of the Lenin District Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus, the Deputy Chairman of the National Control Group, the Chairman of the Committee for the Regulatory Documentation of the Belarusian Library Association.

Tamara Aksyonova was awarded Honorary Diplomas of the Lenin District Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and the Ministry of Culture of the BSSR. In 2000, she was awarded the Badge of Honor of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus for her significant contribution to the development of the Belarusian culture. In 2002 after many years of the diligent work ad significant contribution to the development of the library science and the implementation of the social policy of the Republic of Belarus she was awarded the Honorary Diploma of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus.
Unfortunately, the disease made adjustments to the further fate of Tamara Aksyonova and on November 28, 2003, she was forced to leave the service due to her health condition. In March 2004, after a long struggle with the disease, she ended her life's journey.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
