On June 16th, the grand opening ceremony of the exhibition project "Diamonds of the Century: from the Library Collection", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the National Library of Belarus and Year of historical memory, was held.

It is symbolic that the new library building was opened on this day 16 years ago.

The National Library of Belarus celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2022. This landmark event is included in the UNESCO list of memorable dates. During this period, a rich fund was collected, which today has more than 10 million documents, geathered according to the collection principle.

The new exhibition project allows to see the integruty, diversity and unique feature of the National Library Collection and look throught centenary of the “treaseary of knowledge” though vivid and significant examples of national documents and examples of world book publishing – literary bestsellers, musical compositions, cinemas, graphics and poster art created in the period from 1922 to 2022.

Books, magazines, posters, printed music publications, audio and video documents, electronic information storage assets help to trace the development of the skill of publishing design, changes in the forms of information transmission, and the process of improving information technologies. The highlight of the exhibition is typewriters, leather briefcases and reading cards of famous Belarusian writers and scientists, a collection of table lamps of the twentieth century from the collections of the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature, the Maksim Bogdanovich Literary Museum and the Petrus Brovka Literary Museum.

The exhibition was opened by Viktar Pshybytka, Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus; Vladimir Kulazhenko, Director of the Belarusian State Univercity Fundamental Library, Chairman of the Council of the Belarusian Library Association; Sergey Usyk, Director of the State Museum of the History of Belarusian Literature; Yulia Tverdokhlebova, Head of the Department for Storage of Specialized funds of the National Library of Belarus; Oleg Dernovich, Leading researcher of the Department for History of Belarus of the XI-XVII centuries in the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Candidate of Historical Sciences.

The image of the diamond represents not only the appearance of the National Library – the building in the form of a diamond, glass ceilings, the shine of metal elements of the interior, shining edges, free space and light, but also the true value and diversity of the library's collections.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
