A grand opening of the exhibition project "Symbols of Life" took place in the Atrium of the National Library of Belarus (2nd floor) on September 14 at 17:00.

Representatives of different nationalities, religions and cultures have lived side by side in our country for centuries. This diversity has become the hallmark of Belarus, its unique heritage and priceless gift of ancestors, which must be preserved for the sake of peace and harmony in society, the well-being and prosperity of future generations.

The purpose of the exhibition project is to preserve knowledge about national traditions, popularize the cultural wealth, heritage and historical memory of the Belarusian people. "Symbols of Life" represent the national roots, family traditions, ancestral rituals and significant events in the life of Belarusians.

The exhibition includes wycinanka works by Natalja Sukhaja, Volha Palunica and Jelizavieta Charvoncava, graphic works of the Iuje artist Ivan Vasiukievich, straw items by Iryna Smirnova, amulet dolls of Halina Dunich, traditional musical instruments and batlejka dolls (from the collection of researcher and musician Ivan Kirchuk), as well as historical publications from the collections of the National Library of Belarus, architectural models, folk costumes, ceramics, rushniks, straw products and other items of decorative and applied art.

Various exhibits are provided by the organisers of the exhibition project: The National Library of Belarus, the Iuje Museum of National Cultures, the Iuje Culture and Leisure Centre, the Territorial Centre for Social Services for the Population of the Iuje District, the Belarusian Union of Folk Artists, the Centre for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, "Skarbnitsa" unitary enterprise.

Admission is free on the event day. On other days, the admission is by library card or by the ticket of the library's social and cultural centre.

The project will run until December 31, 2021.
The end date of the exhibition may be changed.

Adam Shanyavsky and the library fund of the Nesvizh county school (the last quarter of the XVIII century)

On April 24, 2024, at the International Scientific and Practical Conference "Rumyantsev Readings-2024" in Moscow, Olga Polunchenko, chief bibliographer of the Department of reference and Information Services, presented a report "The role of Adam Shanyavsky in organizing the library fund of the Nesvizh County School (the last quarter of the XVIII century)."

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
