On 22–23 April in Yerevan (Armenia) were held the celebrations "Yerevan – World Book Capital 2012” where the National Library of Belarus was represented by Director R.S. Motulsky.
The President, the Prime Minister and other chief executive officers of Armenia, representatives of international organizations and numerous foreign delegations participated in the solemn events timed to the 500th anniversary of Armenia book-printing.
The ceremony of assignment of the UNESCO title “The World Book Capital” to Yerevan from Buenos Aires (the Book Capital 2011) opened the solemn events:
- exhibition ArtBookExpo presenting Armenian and foreign books concerning Armenia and published both in Armenia and abroad;
- exhibition “Eternal written language” presenting the history of the development of Armenian State, written language and book-printing;
- opening of the monument “The Life of Eternity”;
- presentation of the virtual museum of Armenia book;
- book exhibition and round table dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Armenian book-printing.
Director of the National Library of Belarus of R.S. Motulsky carried on negotiations with the board of the Museum of History of Armenia and the National Library of Armenia. During the negotiations the parties arranged to hold an exhibition of one of the editions of Fracisk Skoryna, several editions of the first Belarusian printing houses within the framework of “The Exhibition of one masterpiece” which will take place in Yerevan in October, 2012. Also, the ceremony, on which a collection of 100 best Belarusian editions to the National Library of Armenia within the framework of the project “Belarus today” will be presentated, was planned.
