The seminar on using the resources and services of the virtual reading room of the National Library of Belarus for information support of the scientific and educational university activities was held on April 12 in the Vitebsk State University named after Pyotr Masherov.
The seminar was organized by the Council of Libraries of Belarus on Information Interaction, the National Library of Belarus, EBSCO Information Services, Vitebsk State University named after Pyotr Masherov.
In his greeting, Veslav Turkovskiy, the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the VSU named after P. Masherov, stressed the importance of improving the information support of scientific and educational processes in the university.
Vyacheslav Brichkovsky, head of the information support sector for innovative activities of the National Library of Belarus, reported on the Virtual Reading Room Information Resources, the main advantages of remote access to the authoritative databases of the world's leading publishers and aggregators. He also announced the creation of a thematic site "Belarus in the Information Space" within the framework of the Virtual Reading Room of the National Library of Belarus.
Andrey Sokolov, Regional Development Director for Russia, Belarus and Moldova, represented the main electronic resources collections available on the EBSCOhost platform. In his report he talked in details about the resources of the Academic Search Premier database, which is very popular in all world universities.
After the Andrey Sokolov’s speech the heads of the VSU named after P. Masherov discussed the use of EBSCO resources in the university.
During the training conducted by Tamila Mirkamalova, EBSCO Customer Care Specialist in Russia and CIS, the search features on the EBSCOhost platform were presented, as well as other issues related to the configuration of the EBSCOhost interface for end users.
More than 80 representatives of the Vitebsk University took part in the seminar, among which there were heads of departments, teachers, scientists, postgraduates, undergraduates and librarians.
