The electronic publication Станаўленне беларускай дзяржаўнасці: па старонках беларускіх газет 1917–1922 гг. / Formation of the Belarusian Statehood: through the pages of Belarusian newspapers, 1917–1922, was presented in the library on January 10. The new edition is on sale now! The project was prepared by the National Library of Belarus and National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

Two CDs contain 2,400 electronic copies of newspapers (about 80 titles), which were published between 1917 and 1922 on the territory of modern Belarus and abroad. The first disc features digitized copies of newspapers titled from A to К; the second – from Л to Я. Bilingual interface presents information presented in the Belarusian and Russian languages.

The edition’s content is based on newspapers of various socio-political forces from the Christian Democratic Krynica to the Bolshevik Zvezda.

The DVD includes newspapers, that had been issued not only in Minsk (21 periodicals), but in other cities: Vilnius (18), Vitebsk (12), Mogilev (10), Grodno (6), Gomel (5), Bobruisk (4), Moscow (3), Orsha (3), Smolensk (2), Warsaw (1), Mosyr (1), Polotsk (1), Molodechno (1) and  Rogachev (1).

Newspapers are predominantly presented in the Russian and Belarusian languages; two editions are in Polish ( Dziennik Grodzieński (Grodno Newspaper) and Głos robotniczy (Worker's Voice, Vilnius); and also Vilna editions Homan and Krynica, printed in Latin script and Cyrillic.

Search can be made by title (presented in alphabetical order), and place of publication.

As you select a specific newspaper, all issues are immediately shown in a window (with an indication of the date of issue), a full bibliographic record appears and the first page of the newspaper opens, clicking on which you can open an electronic copy of the entire issue of the newspaper.

Over a long period of its existence, the newspaper had become a source of public consciousness, contributing to the formation of national statehood, language, culture, the development of art and literature. For researchers, newspapers are a rich factual material that can be used as source-base for exploring the history of Belarus, and historical and analytical studies of various aspects of political, economic, social and cultural life of the region.

The electronic edition is designed for researchers, university teachers and students, graduates, undergraduates, local historians, as well as all interested in domestic history.

CD Станаўленне беларускай дзяржаўнасці: па старонках беларускіх газет 1917–1922 гг. / Formation of the Belarusian Statehood: through the pages of Belarusian newspapers, 1917–1922 is available by subscription and at a kiosk, located on the 1st floor, near the central entrance. The opening hours of the kiosk correspond to the library’s opening hours.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
