On March 27 Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, and Marina Pshibytko, Head of the Library Science Department, visited Vishovsk and Knyazhytsk Mogilev region rural libraries in the framework of the seminar “Libraries and Book Culture of Belarus: from past to future”.

Natalya Pikos, head of the Vishov agro-town library in the Belynichsky district, spoke about the role of the library in the life of the locals. The cultural institution is a real informational, educational and sociocultural center for adults and children.

The library collection has more than 14 thousand copies. The most interesting literature is represented at the exposition of the “Book delicacies”.

In the library there are two clubs and a hobby group. For the fifth year, the Harmony family club has been operating, where adults and children come and share different books over a cup of coffee or tea. For the development of creativity of children and adolescents, cultivation of love of reading, the “Umeika” club and the “Knigaryonok” club were organized.

Librarians, together with the most active readers, visit the veterans of the Great Patriotic War, the families of the fallen soldiers, deliver them literature to their homes, and provide necessary assistance.

Library workers look for unique historical materials about Vishov’s military past: collect biographies of war veterans, write down memories, find documents about obelisks of Vishovsky Krai. All collected information is placed in the database “War. Victory. Memory”.

In the focus of the librarians’ activities is the restoration of national holidays, ceremonies, traditions. Annually librarians take part in the organization of exhibitions of objects of folk art, the “Dozynki”, “Christmas”, “Maslenitsa”, “Kupala Night” holidays etc.

Due to really passionate work of employees, this library is always full of visitors.

Librarian of the Kniazhitsk rural library of the Mogilev region, Larisa Moiseenko, also spoke about her work.

The cultural institution is located in the secondary school building, so the main readers here are children and teenagers. At the same time, the library service area covers about 16 settlements of the district, where more than 1,400 people live. The most remote village is located at a distance of 11 km. To deliver the literature to all readers a bibliobus is used. Books, newspapers, magazines... The villagers welcome any new literature, that doesn’t frequently happen. For example, last year the library funds were replenished with only 167 new books.

In the framework of the charity action “Reading as Information and Knowledge Space”, Roman Motulsky transferred books to Vyshovsk and Knyazhytsk Mogilev region rural libraries.
