A new project of the National Library of Belarus named 100 Days to the Great Victory through the Pages of 1945 Belarusian Newspapers is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
Virtual daily chronicles of news and events, reflected in the periodical press of Soviet Belarus from January 30 to May 9, 1945, will soon be presented by the National Library.
In the winter and spring of 1945, the Red Army inevitably moved to the West. Fights were carried out far beyond the borders of Soviet Belarus, on the territory of several states - Hungary, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia. But our republic did not hear the sounds of war. Immediately after the liberation of the occupied territory, the state started ressurection of infrastructure, enterprises, buildings, institutions and organizations - all this demanded physical and moral strength, full dedication from the residents of large and small cities and villages.
After their main work, the citizens cleared the streets, dismantled the destroyed buildings. People rebuilt, established work on fields and farms in the villages. Children and students started their lessons, helped elders, and youth took part in sports.
This was written in articles, reports, reviews on the pages of national periodicals. The goal of the project is to show how the country lived in anticipation of the Victory, as well as draw the attention of readers/users to periodicals of that time stored in the collection of the National Library of Belarus (Soviet Belarus, Zvyazda and others). The project allows you to plunge into the atmosphere of a return to a peaceful life.
News will be published daily both on the internet-portal of the National Library and on Belarus in the Information Space website.
