On 26 April, the National Library of Belarus hosted the cultural-educational action “A Step to the Future” timed to World Book and Copyright Day and World Intellectual Property Day.


The organizers of the event are the National Library of Belarus, the National Center of Intellectual Property and the Belarusian Council of libraries for Information Interaction.

An educational seminar “Issues of copyright” was held for representatives of libraries at the press-center of the National Library of Belarus. During it participants reviewed issues on national and international copyright systems, practical aspects of the Law “About the Copyright and Related rights” in libraries activity, the international experience of cooperation with authors. 70 representatives of Belarusian libraries participated in teaching. At the end of the action they all received certificates.

As part of the cultural-educational action “A Step to the Future” there has been chosen the best library of our country in realization of copyright protection activity. It is the Fundamental Library of the Belarusian State University.

There also was an awards ceremony of winners in the student contest on intellectual property. The awards were given from the National Center of Intellectual Property by its General Manager Denis Nedvetsky.

A winner on the nomination “The best master’s thesis” is Svetlana Vashenka, a holder of a master’s degree at the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State Economy University. Her work is “Limitation of exclusive rights on results of intellectual activity”. A winner on the nomination “The best graduation work” is with a work “Legal protection of the means on individualization of parties of civil circulation, its goods, works, services” Irina Ksendrikova, a fifth-year student of private institute “BIP – Institute of Law” . A winner on the nomination “The best publication” is Olga Primakova, a fifth-year student of the law faculty of the Polotsk State University. Her work is “Solution of problems on copyright in Internet in the Republic of Belarus”.

Visitors also saw a book exhibition “The youth of Belarus – an intellectual potential of the country”. It displayed modern books and periodicals that include research articles of young scientists on issues of intellectual property and copyright.

At a festive atmosphere Deputy Director for Information Resources of the National Library of Belarus Tatiana Kuzminich signed an agreement on the use of authors’ works. The document was signed with docent on civil law of the Law Faculty of the Belarusian State University Diana Ivanova, head of law and international agreements of the National Center of Intellectual Property Yulia Fyodorova and popular Belarusian singer and author Irina Vidova.

A vocal group “Chisty golos” (The Pure Voice) sang songs. The visitor had an opportunity to listen to a new song from a new musical collection by composer Oleg Molchan written on words of eminent Belarusian classic Yanka Kupala.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.
