An official event dedicated to the Libraries Day was held in the main library of the country on September 15, with the ceremony of awarding the winners of the "Best in Profession" contest.

It has become a tradition at the Library to award the best employees with certificates of merit for their hard work and professionalism: this year's ceremony was held for the thirteenth time!

Sincere compliments, congratulations and applause sounded today for those who by their labour increase the prestige of the profession and the image of the library.

Ms Aksana Knizhnikava, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, congratulated the staff on Libraries Day, wishing them inspiration, success, fruitful work, good health and wellbeing, and presented a diploma to Ms Sviatlana Puhachova, Leading Methodologist, winner in the nomination "For Devotion to the Profession".

The winners of the nomination "For Leadership and Successful Management" were Ms Sviatlana Kandratovich, Head of the Reference and Bibliographic Services Section of the Reference and Information Service Department; Ms Volha Kurylina, Head of the Collections Storage Section of the Bibliology Research Department; Ms Aliena Matskevich, Head of the Reception of Documents and Legal Deposit Section of the Acquisition Department.

The nomination "Best in Profession" honoured Mr Andrej Baranouski, Chief Bibliographer; Ms Natalja Karaliova, Leading Artist; Ms Natalja Marus, Head of the Electronic Document Generation Section of the Digitisation and Preservation Centre; Ms Zinaida Shulakouskaja, Leading Librarian; Ms Aliesia Stsiapanava, Leading Librarian; Mr Aleh Akhliustsin, Leading Engineer; Mr Siarhej Kundalevich, Leading Engineer; Ms Tatsiana Aharodnikava, Leading Software Engineer; Ms Iryna Karpina, Senior Engineer.

Ms Natalja Shamko, Chief Librarian won in the nomination "For Contribution to the Development of Library Services".

Ms Aksana Zharankova, Leading Methodologist was awarded in the nomination "The Best Public Leader".

A new generation of librarians wasn't left out either. In "The Best Young Specialist" nomination the winner was Ms Maryja Shejman, Leading Librarian.

Traditionally, graduates of higher educational institutions received certificates of young specialists.

Ms Ina Nestsiarovich and Mr Vasil Prus were presenters of the event.

The "Art-Show Disar" dance group, the soloist Ana Blahava, the "Tim to Dance" group of ballroom dance, soloist of Belarusian State Philharmonic Society Uladzislau Plihauka, librarian Natalja Zhyvalkouskaja, and composer, soloist of the Youth Variety Theater Aliaksandr Sukharau congratulated the library staff and showed their performances.

A new project of the National Library of Belarus is dedicated to the Great Patriotic War – "Reading newspaper lines with your heart. On the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders."
Every week from January to August 2024, the portal of the National Library publishes materials from newspapers of Soviet Belarus in 1944, reflecting the chronicle of news and events of that time.

Valuable materials from the archive of the Bolshoi Theatre of Belarus will be added to the project “Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region”

This year marks the 205th anniversary of the birth of the world-famous composer, our famous countryman Stanislaw Moniuszko (1819–1872). By this date, the National Library of Belarus is replenishing with new materials the already existing virtual project "Stanislaw Moniuszko. Musical romantic from Minsk region", created in 2019.

The 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Republic of Belarus from Nazi invaders and the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War are among the main events of 2024 and 2025. Numerous patriotic and cultural and educational events, scientific conferences, exhibitions, publishing projects, electronic resources and much more will be dedicated to these anniversaries for two years.
