On 13 October, the National Library hosted the republican forum “The Book=The World: the current status and development strategy of the national reading space”.


Writers and teachers, publishers and scholars, librarians and specialists of the education system, students of schools, colleges and universities gathered in the National Library to discuss pressing issues related to the promotion of reading and education of a competent, qualified reader in Belarus.

The forum is part of the Republican information and educational programme “KnigaSvet” which aim is to create conditions for a multi-pronged development of reading culture of the Belarusian society. During the forum plenary and breakout sessions, round tables, master-classes were held, and also an exhibition of books run. The online resource "KnigaSvet" was presented to participants of the event and the media.

A solemn ceremony of awarding the winners of the II stage of the cultural and information marathon "Kult-pra-Svet" and remote project «Startup-Fest" Spadchyna.tut"» was the highlight of the forum. The Publishing house “Zviazda” awarded the best librarians diplomas "For the expansion of readership in the space of Belarusian literature".

The results of the forum “The Book=The World: the current status and development strategy of the national reading space” will promote the reader’s horizons in representatives of different generations due to familiarity with the achievements of modern Belarusian art of word and publishing, and through adherence to a variety of educational and awareness-raising initiatives, media events, personal inclusion in the creation and development of platforms for interaction between professional, creative and personal.

The event providers are: the National Institute of Education, the Publishing house “Zviazda”, the editors of the newspaper Nastaunickaja hazieta with the support of the administration of Moskovsky District of Minsk, the publisher Aversev, the office of Schneider Electric Industries SAS (France) in Belarus, and the private enterprise Grand Rait.

Founder of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Belarus

June 21 marks the 280th anniversary of the birth of the famous French scientist-encyclopaedist, doctor of medicine, professor Jean Emmanuel Gilibert (1741-1814), who is rightfully considered the founder of pharmaceutical sciences in Belarus. He created and for several years headed the first higher medical institution in the territory of modern Belarus – the Hrodna Medical Academy.
