The new issue of the bulletin “Новыя кнігі: па старонках беларускага друку” (New Belarusian books reviews), № 4, 2019, is dedicated to the native land of famous people. Material published in the bulletin introduces to the ancestral homes of the outstanding figures in the history of Belarus.
Many places, former manors and estates, which is related to the fate of the well-known public figures, scientists, historians, writers and artists, have gained prominence in Belarus. Estates, from representative aristocratic castles and palaces to gentry’s manors, occupy a significant place in the history and culture of Belarus. The achievements of famous masters, their contribution to the cultural environment of a particular area are immeasurable. The family estates keep rich collections of local history, nature, art and literature (the private collections of the Radziwills, Sapiehas, Paskevichs, Ostrozhskys, Soltans, Chodkiewiczs, Drutsk-Lyubetskys, Czapskis, Tyszkiewiczs, s well as I. Khreptovich, K. Tizengauz, T. Narbut and others).
The refurbishment of palaces and manors, which are of great cultural and historical importance, is the noble cause of the government. Belarus honors the names of its famous and talented natives, and a lot of memorials have been set in recent years. Some estates, connected with the life and work of famous people, are listed as historical and cultural values of the Republic of Belarus and are under state protection.
Due to various circumstances, many well-known politicians, scientists, historians, writers and artists had left their ancestral homes, continuing to live and work in other countries. Their deeds and merits are significant; the cultural values they had created are today part of the golden fund of European and world culture. The names of some of them rightfully belong to many nations.
