The National Library of Belarus took part in the 2nd International Scientific and Practical Conference "Book and Reading in the Digital Age", which took place on June 20-23 in Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic).
The main goal of the event was to increase and strengthen the importance and urgency of the issue of supporting and developing reading in the public consciousness of the CIS member states.
Ms Volha Skalaban, Head of the Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery Department, made a presentation and report “Development of online services of the National Library of Belarus during the pandemic (using the example of electronic delivery of documents)”, shared the Library's experience in the context of the coronavirus infection.
Topical problems and prospects of the policy and activities carried out in each CIS country and activities to support and develop reading; the role of books and reading in solving socially significant problems; ways and means of increasing the social efficiency of programs and projects to promote reading, implemented by educational institutions, libraries, publishing houses, book trade organizations, the media; as well as the development of interstate cooperation in the field of promoting reading and media and information literacy were traditionally discussed at the conference.
Heads of the largest libraries, publishing houses, book trade enterprises, government bodies and institutions in the field of science and education, art and culture, communication and information, public organizations and business from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine attended the event.
The conference was organized by the Interregional Centre for Library Cooperation, the Russian Committee of the UNESCO "Information for All" program and the A. Osmonov National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic with the support of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic.
