On July 30, the Belarusian “diamond of knowledge” was visited by a delegation of vice-rectors for science and innovation and heads of scientific institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

During an introductory tour the delegates assessed the possibilities of the library as the country’s information and socio-cultural center.

At the event’s end, the guests from Uzbekistan received as a gift The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna. The facsimile edition is an international scientific and publishing project, implemented by the library and the BelVEB Bank and timed to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing.

From August 9 to October 14 the exhibition dedicated to the 90th birthday of the Belarusian poet, prose writer and playwright Ales Staver (1929–1995) is held in the Belarusian Literature reading room (205).

Minsk, the Capital of My Country

The city of Minsk was first mentioned in The Tale of Bygone Years, relating to the events of 1067. By decree of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Alexander, on March 14, 1499 Minsk, like other big cities, received the Magdeburg Law, and on January 12, 1591 the city was granted its own coat of arms: the image of Our Lady on a blue background between two angels and cherubs.

All about Latvia: the Horizon Exhibition of Photography Opened

On June 25th, the National Library of Belarus hosted the grand opening of the Horizon exhibition of photography, timed to the 100th anniversary of Latvia and the Latvian National Library. The event was held as part of an official visit by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgar Rinkevics to the Republic of Belarus.
