A presentation of the Roman Catholic New Testament, translated into the Belarusian language, took place in the National Library, on 19 December.

The first full official translation of the New Testament into the modern communicative Belarusian language has been prepared by the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing, which is celebrated this year.

A thorough job of the translation of the biblical texts has been made by the section for translating liturgical texts and official documents of the Catholic Church of the Commission for the Cult of God and the Discipline of Sacraments attached to the Conference of the Catholic bishops in Belarus. The latest critical editions of the New Testament Novum Testamentum Graece (in 1993 and 2012), representing the Greek texts of the oldest and best manuscripts, served as the pretext.

The event attendees were greeted by the Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, the chairman of the Conference of Catholic Bishops in Belarus, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz, the Apostolic Nuncio in Belarus, Archbishop Gabor Pinter, and Bishop of Molodechno and Stolbtsy Pavel.

Doctor of Biblical Sciences Marina Pashuk, the editor responsible for the publication of the New Testament, made a report on Belarusian translations of the Holy Script in 1926–2017.

During the celebratory presentation, diplomas were handed to members of the section for translating, who participated in the preparation of the translation, and representatives of the "Pro Christo" Catholic publishing house, which published the book.

At the end of the event, Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz presented the Belarusian translation of the New Testament to the high-ranking guests. A volume was donated to the National Library of Belarus as well.

Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky expressed sincere gratitude for the valuable gift, and gave the Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz the last volume of the facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna, the presentation of which took place in the library last September.

After the official part, the guests visited the international project "Francysk Skaryna and his epoch", where they could see the complete set of the facsimile Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna and the original books by the first Belarusian printer.
