The number of Belarusian literary pieces translated and published in different countries has increased in recent years.

Books by both the classics of Belarusian literature – Yanka Kupala, Maksim Bahdanovič, Vasil Bykaŭ, Uladzimir Karatkievich, and contemporary writers – Uładzimir Arłou, Svetlana Alexievich, Ales Karlyukevich, Nikolai Cherginets, Andrei Khadanovich, Adam Hlobus and others, are being published in English, Georgian, Spanish, Lithuanian, German, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Finnish, Czech, Swedish and other languages.

Writers maintain close relations with colleagues in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. “'Zvyazda' Publishing House” has been putting out a series “The Harmony of Hearts” since 2013. Its goal is to introduce the Belarusian reader to the pieces of writers and poets from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and other countries. Contacts have also been established with Uzbekistan, where, in turn, the books of our authors are being published in Uzbek.

Among the publications gifted to the National Library of Belarus are the fiction books by Mr Ales Karlyukevich, Minister of Information of the Republic of Belarus, famous writer and literary critic, local history expert, journalist, translated into Uzbek, Serbian, Tatar, and Mari.

Of particular interest is the cycle of fairy tales about Shuburshun, fictional character well-loved by Belarusian children: “Adventures of Shuburshun” (2014), “Wise Shuburshun” (2014), “Shuburshun and his Friends” (2019) and others. Among the donated books there is a brand new edition for the library collection – “Shuburshun va uning do 'stlari” (“Shuburshun and his Friends”) (2019) in Uzbek.

You can learn more about the life and artistry, translation and editorial activities of Mr Ales Karlyukevich in the bio-bibliographic index “Ales Karlyukevich” (2015), prepared by the Brest Regional Library. A new edition of this book is underway.
