A facsimile of the the Lavrishevo Gospel was presented and donated to the library, on March 1.

The Lavrishevo Gospel belongs to the early period of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The manuscript was created for the Orthodox Monastery in the village of Lavrishevo, near Novogrudok. Thanks to the facsimile reproduction, performed by Gorobets Publishing House in Kiev, the rarity is now available to a mass audience.

During the ceremony of donation, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus, Igor Kizim, stressed the importance of facsimile reprints for the preservation and study of cultural heritage and invited the National Library to collaborate.

The Deputy Minister of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Sergey Sheremetyev, noted that the re-creation of the Lavrishevo Gospel was one of the most interesting projects and thanked the publishing house for their fruitful work.

The Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus, Alexander Susha, noted that many unique books were a joint historical treasure for both Belarus and Ukraine and a basis for joint projects and exchange of experience.

The event was attended by the doctor of philological sciences, scientific researcher of the Lavrishevo Gospel, Victor Moisienko, director of the Gorobets Publishing House, Anna Gorobets, philanthropist Olga Skripchenko, journalists and other persons concerned.

To date, the original book is stored in the library of Princes Czartoryski (Poland, Krakow). The Gospel is decorated with illuminations and has a binding with precious stones and a shaped metal plate with the image of the holy warrior (perhaps Prince Voishelk).
