The 27th International Education Forum "Glinka Readings" took place in the Sergiev Posad city on the basis of the Moscow Theological Academy, on July 27–29, 2018.

The forum was devoted to the "Spiritual and moral foundations of education and upbringing". The event was timed to the day of memory of Schiarchimandrite Ioan (Maslov) (1932–1991), theologian, an outstanding teacher, an associate professor of the Moscow Theological Academy, our contemporary. The life of Shhiarchimandrite Ioan (Maslov), his spiritual service is connected with the Republic of Belarus. From 1985 to 1991 he served in the Holy Dormition Monastery at Zhirovichi as a monastery confessor.

The "Glinka Readings" event was organized with the participation of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, and the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation. The Moscow Pedagogical Academy has organized the forum.

More than 500 people from Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Ukraine, Estonia took part in the event. Participants from Belarus were represented by library specialists, teachers, clergymen from Minsk, Polotsk, Pinsk, Molodechno and other regions.

On July 27, on the first day of the forum, there were meetings of sections and round tables devoted to spiritual and moral upbringing in the family, in pre-school institutions, in general secondary and vocational education institutions, and the educational role of libraries.

The plenary sessions were held on July 28–29.

The National Library of Belarus was represented at the forum by Olga Rynkevitch, the Chief Librarian of the Library Science department, who took on the role of moderator of the section "Libraries in the spiritual and moral education of children and youth". The meeting was attended by specialists from public, school, parochial libraries from Russia and Belarus. During the operational period of the section, issues of cooperation between secular and ecclesiastical libraries on spiritual and moral education and upbringing issues, the skills raising of library specialists working with Orthodox literature were discussed.

On July 28 Olga Rynkevitch reported on the "Educational work of libraries on the formation of the Orthodox world outlook on the works by Schiarchimandrite Ioan (Maslov) (on the example of Belarusian libraries)" at the plenary session of the forum. In her speech, she highlighted the activities of the National Library of Belarus, its role in preserving the national spiritual heritage, analyzed the results of interaction between public, school and parish libraries in the framework of cooperation programs of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Orthodox Church, told about use of the works written by Ioan (Maslov) in the activities of the republican libraries for spiritual and moral education and upbringing. The report aroused great interest among the participants of the event.

During the International Educational Forum "Glinka Readings" the participants were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the system of libraries’ work on spiritual and moral education and upbringing of the younger generation, and exchange experience.

Students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National library

On April 18, the students of the Belarusian State Academy of Music visited the National Library of Belarus as part of the environmental education and upbringing program. They got acquainted with the thematic book exhibition "Water is a wonderful gift of Nature" dedicated to World Water Day. The exposition is presented in the documents of international organizations reading room (room 207 g).
