The International Scientific Conference “The Fate of the Family Collections of the Magnate Clans in Belarus” took place in Nesvizh on November 10.
The organizers of the real-virtual event: National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Nesvizh" and the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus.
Welcoming remarks to the participants of the event were made by:
- Sergey Klimov, Director of the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Niasvizh"
- Pavel Sapotko, Director of the National Historical Museum of the Republic of Belarus
- Rimantas Žirgulis, Director of Kedainiai Regional Museum
- Monika Antszak, Curator of the museum in Nieborów and Arcadia
The program began with the presentation of the book by Anatoly Fedoruk “Ancient estates of Grodno region: Lida District, Mostovsky District, Novogrudok District, Ostrovets District, Oshmyany District ". The book novelty was presented by Olga Popko, Scientific Editor, and Natalia Fedoruk, the author's daughter.
Four sections were held during the day:
- I section "Collections of the Nesvizh Palace: history and modernity"
- II section "Hic mortui vivunt et muti loquuntur"
- ІІІ section "Magnates and Faith"
- IV section "Issues of restitution, the introduction of art objects into scientific circulation and legal aspects of collecting"
The section “Hic mortui vivunt et muti loquuntur” united researchers of book culture and was substantively devoted to the problems of studying book monuments and archival materials.

“Belarusian Cyrillic books of the 16th - early 19th centuries at book auctions in Moscow: unique items and their functioning in culture"
- Alina Koltachenko, Post-graduate student of the Republican Institute of Higher Education, senior lecturer at the Institute of Sports and Tourism Management of the Belarusian State University of Physical Culture (Belarus).
"The Internet resources potentials for the studies of the Archives of the Magnate Families of Belarus"
The section was named “Hic mortui vivunt et muti loquuntur” for a reason. The phrase from the Latin language is translated as "Here the dead live and the dumb speak" and was on the walls of old libraries. This very expression was also written in the Nesvizh library. At the exhibition Castrum doloris. Funeral ceremony of the Nesvizh courtyard" in the National Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve "Nesvizh" a plate from the premises of the library of the Nesvizh Castle is exhibited.
Bibliology Research Department
