On April 23rd, within the framework of events timed to the World Book and Copyright Day, at the National Library of Belarus was held a round table dedicated to intellectual property ethics and right.
The round table ”The ethics and right of intellectual property in the field of information access and preservation of cultural and spiritual heritage of society” was organized by the Council of Libraries for Information Interaction, the National Library of Belarus and the National Center of Intellectual Property.
The round table was held with the purpose of attracting state and public institutes to ethic and legal aspects of intellectual property in the field of information access and cultural and spiritual heritage preservation.
At the round table the following problems were discussed: the influence of a restricted use of intellectual property on development of culture and public property formation; the issues of digital cultural heritage preservation in the information society; ethic and legal aspects of alternative licenses; legislative initiatives of the library community in the field of copyright and the allied rights.
Representatives of the legislature of the Republic of Belarus, UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, the National Center of Intellectual Property, Belarusian State University, St. Cyril and Methodius Institute of Theology, the National Library of Belarus, heads and specialists of libraries and heads and representatives of scientific and creative non-governmental organizations participated in the event.
Within the framework of the round table, an exhibition of editions of the National Center of Intellectual Property was held. Also participants of the event could see the exhibition of the National Library of Belarus “Intellectual property: protection and development in the world” timed to the World Intellectual Property Day – 2010.
