On June 25-28, 2011, meetings of the eIFL General Assembly are held at the National Library of Belarus.
The eIFL Consortium (Electronic Information for Libraries) is the nonprofit international organization consolidating library consortiums in more than 45 countries of Central, Eastern and South-East Europe, the former USSR, Africa, the Middle East and South-East Asia. Its major tasks are promotion of knowledge sharing on the global scale, building of continuing education network, and also promotion of national library consortiums.
The Belarusian Council of Libraries for Information Interaction at the National Library of Belarus (BelCoLib) is the eIFL full member since 2009. The Council represents the interests of different Belarusian libraries in the filed of acquisition and use of electronic information resources, intellectual property for library activities, development and distribution of open access information resources and open code software. Establishment and functioning of the NLB virtual reading room is one of the results of the Council’s activities.
Meetings of the eIFL General Assembly are held annually and each time in a different country. In 2011, the meetings take place in Belarus to gather more than 90 representatives of consortiums – the eIFL members and major aggregators and providers of electronic information resources.
The questions of open access policy; overcoming of obstacles in using electronic resources; integrated access to electronic information resources; copyright in the context of international politics, as well as negotiations with aggregators and providers of electronic information resources are on the meetings 2011 agenda.
