On June 13, 2007, within the framework of the 14th International conference "Crimea-2007" "Libraries and information resources in the modern world of science, culture, education, and business", the Day of Libraries of Belarus was held. Representatives of Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Bulgaria, the USA and other countries participated in the event.
At the beginning of the event, the welcoming speeches delivered: V.M. Chernik, the head of the Administration of Cultural and Folk Art Institutions at the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus; Y.L. Shraiberg, the chairman of the International Conference ’Crimea-2007’ Organizing Committee, director-general of the State Public Scientific Library of Russia; T.L. Manilova, the head of the Federal Agency of Culture and Cinema Cultural Heritage, Artistic Education and Science Administration Library Department; I.A. Shevchenko, the Deputy Director of the Department of Art and Regional Policy, the head of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine; Nadezhda Zakharieva-Demjanova, the Deputy Minister of Culture of Bulgaria.
N.S. Chujeva, the chairman of the Belarusian Library Association, spoke about the role of association in consolidation of library community in the Republic of Belarus.
The report by R.S. Motulsky, the Director of the National Library of Belarus ’The National Library of Belarus as a center of corporate interaction’ aroused a living interest of the audience.
Е.Е. Dolgopolova, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus shared the experience in the field of corporate development and application of national information resources.
L.G.Kiriuhina, the Deputy Director for Science and PR delivered the report which acquainted participants with the NLB’s scientific work in the field of library activity.
During the following sections, specialists from the biggest libraries of Belarus acquainted participants with modern state and prospects of Belarusian librarianship.
The Republic of Belarus possesses the full range of means for the development of the National Electronic Library: modern information and communication technologies, high qualified specialists etc., but legislation and organizing activity in this field are to be improved.
Furthermore, participants of the Day of Libraries of Belarus acquainted themselves with new library technologies developed by Belarusian companies ’Agate-System’ and SIS-ENGINEERING.
E.L. Krejdik, the head of "Agate-System” laboratory presented the system of retro conversion of catalogues.
В.Е. Mshar, the director of the company SIS-ENGINEERING acquainted the audience with the advantages of a transporting system of address delivery of materials which, since 2006, has being successfully used by National Library of Belarus.
At the end of the Day R.S. Motulsky said that such events are useful both for participants and guest as the mean of exchange of experience, reflection and discovery of further ways of development.
The Day of Belarusian libraries drew a wide response at the Conference. Our libraries can be proud with their achievements. As noted guests of the Day, Belarusian experience will be useful for the development of librarianship in other countries.
