The solemn award ceremony of prize of the President of the Republic of Belarus For Spiritual Revival 2017, the special prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus for specialists in the sphere of culture and art 2017 and of special prize Belarusian Sports Olympus 2017 took place on January 9th.

On the eve of Christmas holidays there is a custom not only to give gifts and exchange good wishes, but also to thank for diligence, fruitful work and important achievements. Traditionally in the first days of January in the Palace of the Republic they say words of gratitude to honored people and collectives, whose work left a significant mark in the culture, art, history and spiritual life of our country.

The participants of the ceremony were greeted by Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Republic of Belarus. As a result of 2017 five presidential prizes For Spiritual Revival were awarded for active work in the humanitarian sphere. The National Library of Belarus is in the top five! The collective was awarded for facsimile reproduction and popularization of the Francysk Skaryna’s book heritage.

The publication of the facsimile The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna in the year of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian and East Slavonic printing has become a resonant event not only in Belarus, but throughout the world. There are twenty volumes of copies of the original editions of the famous humanist . Dispersed all around the world, previously they were inaccessible to residents of Belarus and other countries. Now, thanks to the efforts of the National Library of Belarus and its reliable partner of the BelVEB Bank, every Belarusian, every guest of our blue-eyed country, as well as residents of 55 countries of the world can get acquainted with the valuable heritage.

Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, was honored by the President. Expressing words of gratitude, Roman Motulsky said: "This is a high appreciation of the work not only of individuals and work teams, but also of our predecessors, who have worked for many years to create material prosperity and preserve the spiritual memory of our society".

The prize For Spiritual Revival was also awarded to the collectives of the Belarusian Union of Women and the Republican Scientific and Practical Center of Oncology and Medical Radiology named after N.N. Alexandrov. Among the laureates are Victor Peregudov, the priest of the parish of St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk in Ivyanets, and Abu-Bekir Shabanovich, the Mufti of the Muslim Religious Association in the Republic of Belarus.

At a result of 2017, 10 special prizes of the President of the Republic of Belarus were awarded to specialists in the sphere of culture and art.

For the successful organization of events dedicated to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing, the honoured ensemble of the Republican Theater of Belarusian Drama, as well as the personnel of the publishing center Marka of the Belarussian Postal Service Belpochta, which was awarded for the creation of jubilee art post stamps.

The prize was also awarded to the collectives of the main directorate of the Belteleradiocompany, the Belarusian State Academy of Arts, the Oktyabrsky District House of Crafts, the Minsk Concert, the Belarusian State Academy of Music, the Lida Regional Center of Culture and Folk Art.

The prizes were also awarded to Sergey Egoreychenko, Deputy Director of the National History and Culture Museum-Reserve Niasvizh and Valery Slauk, the famous Belarusian artist. By the way, the amazing works of the talented artist are decorating now one of the galleries of the National Library.

The guests of the celebration could see the exposition of the presidential prizes laureates in the hall of the Palace of the Republic. The National Library presented the results of the tremendous five-year work: the multi-volume facsimile "The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna", which became the spiritual "visiting card" of Belarus all over the world.

Minsk, the Capital of My Country

The city of Minsk was first mentioned in The Tale of Bygone Years, relating to the events of 1067. By decree of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Alexander, on March 14, 1499 Minsk, like other big cities, received the Magdeburg Law, and on January 12, 1591 the city was granted its own coat of arms: the image of Our Lady on a blue background between two angels and cherubs.
