The presentation and the ceremony of donating the facsimile edition of the Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna to the National Library of Brazil took part on August 29 in Rio de Janeiro.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Federal Republic of Brazil Alexander Tserkovsky presented a multivolume facsimile to Maria Eduarda Marques, the acting director of the Brazilian library.
During the solemn evening the presentation of the National Library of Belarus was held and a video film about the biography of the Belarusian printer with subtitles in the Portuguese language was demonstrated for the administrative staff and employees of the Brazilian library. The head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission expressed confidence that this event will initiate fruitful bilateral cooperation between the libraries of Belarus and Brazil. In turn, the collective of the Brazilian library highly appreciated the gift and expressed interest in realization of joint projects and exchange of experience.
The publication of the 21-volume facsimile "The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna" is a truly great event not only for Belarus, but for the whole world community.
The international scientific and publishing project implemented by the National Library of Belarus and the BelVEB Bank lasted five years and was successfully completed in 2017, the year of the celebration of the 500th anniversary of Belarusian printing. Today the multivolume edition continues to replenish collections of the largest libraries of the world and to acquaint the residents of different countries with the rich history and original culture of Belarus.
