On April 27th, the National Library hosted events timed to the World Book and Copyright Day and the World Intellectual Property Day.


В пресс-центре Национальной библиотеки Беларуси состоялся The training seminar "Copyright and related rights: peculiarities of use in activities of libraries of the Republic of Belarus" was held at the press centre of the National Library of Belarus.

The event was attended by about 50 specialists from public and special libraries of Belarus.

Tacciana Kuzminič , the deputy director of the National Library of Belarus for information resources, opened the seminar. She noted that digital technologies, which were actively introduced in the activity of libraries, put challenging questions of interaction between authors and owners. Therefore, the main objectives of the training were to increase professional competence of library professionals in the field of intellectual property and promotion of fair use of copyrighted works.

Hanna Ramanienka, the specialist of the National Center of Intellectual Property of Belarus, introduced the participants to the legislation of the Republic of Belarus in the field of copyright and related rights, highlighted the features of copyright protection on the Internet, described the collective management system of copyright and related rights in the Republic of Belarus. Her speech aroused great interest of the audience. Hanna Ramanienka answered many questions that faced the staff of information institutions during their professional activity.

On the same day, the cultural-educational action “The Master of the Belarusian word Kandrat Krapiva” , timed to the 120h anniversary of the birth of the classicist of Belarusian literature took place at the gallery “Labyrinth”.

Raman Matulski, the director of the National Library of Belarus, opened the solemn event. In his speech he noted that the book had always been and remained the main source of knowledge, and one of the main tasks of modern libraries was to provide the necessary information to the reader, taking into account the rules of copyright.

The cultural-educational action was attended by the guests of honor the Ph.D., Associate Professor, Head of the Department of modeling the costume of the Institute of Modern Knowledge named after A.M. Šyrokaǔ, granddaughter and keeper of Kandrat Krapiva’s heritage Aliena Atrachovič, and the literary critic, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, doctor of philological sciences, professor and friend of Kandrat Krapiva’s Sciapan Laǔšuk. During the event, they shared their memories and once again noted the personal sublimity of the writer Kandrat Krapiva. He was a man of extraordinary intelligence, possessed a language intuition and could hear the musical sound of the Belarusian language.

Volha Grynkievič , the head of section of the National Library of Belarus, presented to the guests the electronic publication Верай і праўдай прайшоў праз эпоху, dedicated to the life and writing of Kandrat Krapiva. The CD includes bibliographical and factographical, audiovisual and graphic materials, electronic copies of the first editions of the writer and archival papers from the collections of the National Library of Belarus, the National Archive of Belarus and the private archive of the writer’s granddaughter Aliena Atrachovič.

During the event Aliena Atrachovič and representatives of the National Library of Belarus signed an agreement of granting rights to use the classic’s works as electronic editions.

The guests could listen to the living voice of Kandrat Krapiva on the records from the archive of the Belarusian TV and Radio Company, and also the poet’s fables performed by the students of the Belarusian Academy of Arts Karyna Samcova, Dzmitryj Rubiel and Mikalaj Varabiej.

The book exhibition, arranged within the bounds of the event, presented the books by Kandrat Krapiva from the stocks of the National Library of Belarus, historical papers from the National Archive of Belarus, and illustrations to the fables of Kandrat Krapiva performed by the artist Anatol Alieksandrovič.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
