Museum Selfie Day started today in different countries of the world.
The action was held for the first time in 2014 under the slogan of the National Museum in Kabul, The Nation Lives while Culture Lives. Then the museum invited Internet users to arrange a kind of flashmob by posting their photos on social networks against the backdrop of the museum exhibits.
The word selfie (a self-portrait digital photograph) first appeared in an Australian forum in 2002 as the name of the pictures of themselves on smartphones or cameras and in ten years it became so popular that in 2013 it was recognized as the word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary.
The purpose of the action is to draw attention to the museums and exhibits. That is why the National Library of Belarus recommends to charge a mobile phone and to take a selfie stick with you before visiting the Book Museum.
