On 30 May, Smolensk (Russia) hosted a meeting of the international round table "The problems of studying the history of books, librarianship and museology in boundary regions (by the example of Smolensk)".
The International round table was organized on the basis of the Smolensk State Institute of Arts.
The event was attended by teachers and students of this institute, representatives of the Department of Smolensk region on Culture and Tourism, the Smolensk Regional Universal Library named after A. Twardowski, the State Historical Museum, the Smolensk Branch of the Union of Russian ethnographers, the State Archive of Smolensk region, the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve, editorial staff of the magazine Kray Smolenski, the Library named after I. Turgenev and others. The representative of the National Library of Belarus was Ph.D., associate professor Tatiana Kuzminich, First Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus for User Service and Ideology.
At the round table there was a presentation of a reference book Sozdateli kultury Smolenschiny: bibliotechnye i muzeynye deyateli, knigoizdateli i kollektsionery kontsa XVIII – nachala XX veka (Creators of Smolensk culture: figures of libraries and museums, publishers and collectors of the late 18th – beginning of the 20th centuries) by T. Zharova, M. Ivanov, L. Stepchenkov.
The participants of the event marked a high level of this bibliographical reference, as well as its relevance to the research and practice of library and bibliographic activities. There were approved an idea to create a center for the study of regional history of books and librarianships on the basis of the Smolensk State Institute of the Arts.
