On November 15th–16th in Vilnius (Lithuania) there was held an international scientific conference with participation of Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus Aleksandr Susha.
The conference “Return to the past: the phenomenon of Professor L. Vladimirov and promotion of his ideas” was initiated by the library and the faculty of communication of the Vilnius University.
The conference was devoted to the 100th anniversary from the date of birth of the outstanding library figure of Lithuania L.I. Vladimirov, his works and their influence on the development of theory and practice of librarianship and information sciences. He became an initiator and main participant of returning to Lithuania book collections that had been removed before. In this connection the conference agenda included a complex of questions concerning the destiny and preservation for future generations of national book heritage, and also the experience of digitization of cultural monuments in Lithuania and abroad, the challenges of the present and the role of employees of libraries, museums and archives in the context of preservation of cultural heritage and reader service.
Scientists and public and cultural figures of Lithuania and some foreign countries took part in the conference. The National Library of Belarus was represented by Deputy Director for research work and publishing activity Alexandr Susha, one of participants of the conference and member of the conference organizing committee. He presented a paper “Professor Lev Vladimirov and the study of Francisk Skoryna’s heritage.
