The Guardian Council of the National Library of Belarus appeals to everybody who is interested in the offer to purchase valuable items which are part of Belarusian book heritage for the main library of Belarus.


The return of cultural heritage, which by various reasons turned out abroad, is one of the most important tasks because it contributes to the formation of pride among our contemporaries in the achievements of national culture. This return will be an important event in the life of the Belarusian society and will contribute to the development of librarianship.

On the initiative of the Guardian Council of the National Library there was made a list of book which are not placed in the Library’s stocks and other book collections of the country.

The paletype was published in the early of the 16th century. A rare Western European edition of a famous Italian writer and theorist of literature. It supplements the collection of the paletypes which are hold at the National Library of Belarus. The binding which is typical for that era, parchment on wood, the spine is restored.

It is a headstone of Tyszkiewicz, the bishop of Vilna, Logoisk and Berdichev, which is located in Vilnius Cathedral. The Chromolithograph of Album de Wilna. The publisher is Y.K. Wilczynsky. The color lithograph with the imitation of marble and gold. The image of the headstone is made by Polish artist Karol Rypinsky (Karol Rypiński (1808–1892). The stocks of the National Library of Belarus don’t contain separately released portraits of this man. This lithograph can fill the lack of these portraits. It represents historical value.

The portrait of the General of rebels John Khranovskaya (Jan Chrzanowski) (1753–1824) in the uniform of the Order of Military Virtutsi. He was a military figure of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, a member of military operations during the second allotment of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1793). He was born in Beresteysk Province, served in the units of Radziwill. The portrait was made by French artist Francois Granier (François Granier) (1793–1867) in the first half of the 19th century.

The image on stone is made by Polish artist Jan Levitsky (Jan Lewicki (1802–1871)). The image of costumes, tools, objects from Belarusian peasant life in Grodno region of the 19th century. The engraving is of ethnographic and historical interest.

The handwritten manuscript of Old Believers; it is liturgical, singing, hook notes. Handwriting: professional, the script is written with brown ink, titles and service words are with cinnabar. A copyist is not mentioned. There is no foliation. Signatures are digital.
Design: illumination, decorated with birds, and vermilion letters.
It was widespread in Gomel region.

2nd part of the 18th century – beginning of the 19th century (?).

The handwritten manuscript contains descriptions of saints’ lives, their words and teachings. A special interest represents the teachings of three saints Basil of Ceasarea, Gregory of Nazianzus, John Chrystostom, the words of Saints Ephrem the Syrian and Isaac the Syrian, the life of Vasily Novy and Saint Eustace.
The filigree is the emblem of Yaroslavl (?).
The binding is full of leather (earlier?): dark brown leather on boards, binding covers and the spine has a blind embossing, a clasp (1).
Handwriting is professional, the script is made by several handwritings with brown ink, service words, titles are with cinnabar.
The manuscript is decorated with two illuminations (description the life of Vasily Novy and the vision of Gregory of Nazianzus).
It was widespread on the territory of Gomel region.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.

On April 8-12 the VII International Scientific and Practical Seminar "Document Restoration: Conservatism and Innovation - 2024" was held at the Russian State Library. This is the largest professional forum, the main task of which is to exchange experience and improve the skills of restorers and curators of museum, library and archival collections from different countries.
