A regional meeting for directors of public library networks "The State and Main Directions of Library Development in Regional Libraries" was held on March 14 in the Minsk Regional Library named after A.S. Pushkin.
The event summed up the work of libraries in 2018, there were discussed issues and outlined prospects for the development of library science in the Minsk region.
Roman Motulsky, Director of the National Library of Belarus, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, professor held a public lecture on the topic “Tendencies and features of the development of book culture in Belarus in the 11th – 20th centuries in the context of common European and national history”. The event was part of the Year of Native Land in Belarus.
Based on a large number of documentary and statistical data and in close connection with the cultural and historical development of the country, Roman Motulsky considered the history of the development of books and libraries in Belarus from the 9th century until the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the development of library and publishing in Belarus during the Soviet period (1917–1991).
The Director of the National Library stressed that the modern world requires the formation of cultural immunity from Belarus, and its foundation is history, the sources of which are preserved by our rich book heritage.
