On 20 December, the E. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library hosted a Science and Practical Seminar on Rare Books in Libraries and Museums: the Specificity of Keeping and Use.
The event was organized by the National Library of Belarus, the central directorate for ideology, culture and youth affairs at the Grodno regional executive committee, and the E. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library
The director of the E. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library, Lidia Maltseva, greeted the attendees emphasizing the relevance and importance of the seminar, which brought together many interested specialists from libraries and museums of the region. The deputy director, Marina Ignatovich, familiarized the attendees with the structure and main activities of the regional scientific library.
During the seminar, reports were made by the specialists of the National Library of Belarus: the head of the bibliology research department, Galina Kireeva, (The National Collection of Rare Books of Belarus as a Historical and Cultural Heritage), the chief bibliographer of the department, Tatyana Kornilova, (Features of the Description of Belarusian Cyrillic Early Printed Publications), the head of section for scientific and design work, Tatyana Sapego, (Design Work as a Promising Area of Research and Popularization of the Book Heritage).
Reports also were presented by the chief bibliographer of the local history department of the Grodno Regional Scientific Library, Luydmila Koronkevich, (The Collection of Rare Editions in the Stocks of the E. Karsky Grodno Regional Scientific Library), and the deputy director for scientific work of the Grodno State Historical- Archaeological Museum Olesya Savchuk, (The Collection of the Grodno Historical and Archaeological Museum: the History of Formation, Research and Use in Exhibition Activities).
"Wisdom is acquired from the book’s words", an exhibition of rare books from the collections of the Grodno Diocese timed to the 500th anniversary of Belarusian book-printing, officially opened within the framework of the event. At the opening spoke: the head of the department of arts of the Grodno Regional Scientific Library, Lilia Khodorovskaya, the dean of the Holy Protection Cathedral of Grodno, Archpriest Georgy Roy, the Associate Professor of the department of history of Belarus, archeology and special historical disciplines of the Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, Svetlana Silova, PhD, and also Galina Kireeva.
During the visit, the specialists of the National Library of Belarus got acquainted with the expositions of the Grodno State Historical and Archaeological Museum and the Grodno State Museum of the History of Religion.
