On February 11th, within the framework of the XXIII Minsk International Book Fair, the library hosted the presentation of the book Беларусь – Финляндия: в часе полета (Belarus-Finland: at a distance of one hour of flight) by Uladzimir Dražyn, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Lithuania and Finland (2006–2014).
The photo album-book tells about the interaction between the two independent states during more than 20 years of diplomatic relations. Presenting Finland as a beautiful and highly developed country, the publication shows the importance, usefulness and advisability of mutual cooperation between Belarus and this successful state, acquaints with the first achievements of economic and socio-cultural cooperation and outlines the future prospects. Today, the Republic of Finland is the key trade and economic partner of our country in Northern Europe, and this publication is designed for the strengthening of mutual understanding between peoples.
The book is prepared with the assistance of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Belarus and Finland; the Office of the Embassy of Finland to Belarus; the Embassy of Belarus to Finland, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and also the brewing company Lidskoye pivo. The company is the most successful result of economic cooperation between the two states.
The event gathered the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Finland to Lithuania and Belarus Harri Mäki-Reinikka, the head of the information department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Iryna Zubko, the general manager of the brewing company Lidskoye pivo Audrius Miksys, the director of the State Literary Museum of Janka Kupala Aliena Liaškovič, and the deputy chairman of the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Uladzimir Ulakhovič.
During the presentation Uladzimir Dražyn held an autograph session and donated the publication to the National Library of Belarus and the guests of honor.
Also participants of the event attended the exposition of books from the library’s stocks about Finland, its history and culture.
The event organizers were the National Library and the publishing house ”Belovargrup”.
