On November 21, 2008, at 16.00 in the gallery “Labyrinth” (the third floor) in the framework of the ІV-th International book science lectures takes place the presentation of the first five volumes of a new complete Collected Works by Yakub Kolas in twenty volumes with scientific commentaries.
Works by Yakub Kolas, the people’s writer of Belarus, present the whole epoch in the history of Belarusian literature. He is a founder of Belarusian national prose, although he is an author of poetic masterpieces as well.
Collected Works by Yakub Kolas in twenty volumes published by “Belaruskaya Navuka” publishing house is the third edition of works by Belarusian classical writer with scientific commentaries published after the author’s death. The new edition holds more new works by the author and is remarkable for extended scientific commentaries, rich illustrations, and textual study.
During the event takes place the presentation of the first quarter of the edition which has been already published. Volumes 1-4 contain poetry and stories in verse; volume 5 opens a new section which includes prose.
The published volumes of Collected Works by Yakub Kolas will acquaint readers with new information on the author as a poet and prose writer. The foreword written for the edition informs on national features of the classical writer of Belarusian literature, his crucial role as a writer innovator in the history of Belarusian literature and his contribution to the world literature. Volumes 1-5 give an idea of the new Collected Works as a particularly significant edition.
The author’s literary heritage is one of determinative factors in the developing of social and national consciousness of a person and patriotic education.
