On June 16th, the photo exhibition “The National Library of Belarus” opened in Moscow. The presentation of a unique facsimile edition The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna was also held.

Both events were held at the new and very important Business and Culture Center of the Embassy of Belarus to Russia.

The modern and perfectly equipped complex is called to be an effective platform for the promotion of Belarusian culture and spiritual heritage, science, business, and also for the presentation of economic opportunities and investment potential of the Republic of Belarus.

The photo exhibition “The National Library of Belarus” presents to business, public and scientific circles of Russia, creative intellectuals and wide audience the main library of Belarus as an appreciable phenomenon of culture, a scale multipurpose complex combining high technologies and the best traditions, ultramodern design and unconditional comfort. The original building opened in 2006 is conceived in the form of a jewel – a diamond symbolizing the value of knowledge the library keeps. This is a “visiting card” of Belarus. Owing to an unusual architectural decision “the Belarusian brilliant” more than once appeared in lists of the most surprising and uncommon buildings of the world.

The photo exhibition presents the bests and even unusual images of the National Library of Belarus in 25 photos. Six known Belarusian photographers are creators of this collections: Anatoly Drybas, Alexander Zhernosek, Loliy Makedonsky, Sergey Plytkevich, Victor Suglob and Valery Harchenko. The exhibition was on display in France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Czechia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Sweden.

Also the Business and Culture Center of the Embassy of Belarus to Russia hosted the presentation of the five first recreated volumes from the complete set of works by Francysk Skaryna, the celebrated Belarusian who had begun book publishing in East Europe. Facsimile edition of all 25 books printed by Francysk Skaryna in Prague (1517–1519) and Vilna (1522–1525) is the unique joint project of the National Library of Belarus and the Bank BelVEB which will be finished in 2017.

The facsimile copy keeps all the features of Skaryna’s books: fonts, engravings and all the peculiarities of the 500-year old edition.

The collection bases on electronic copies of best preserved Skaryna’s books from the libraries and museums of Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Germany etc.

The reedited masterpieces also include Francysk Skaryna’s forewords and afterwords first translated into the modern Belarusian, Russian and English languages.

Rudimino, the Scientific Library of the Moscow State University named after M.V.
