On November 17th, a presentation of the book “Folk Fairytales for Children” took place at the gallery Rakurs of the National Library of Belarus.
The event was prepared by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in cooperation with the National Library of Belarus as part of the festival week Children’s Eurovision 2010 and celebrations of the Children’s Rights Convention anniversary.
The book includes 19 Belarusian folk fairytales for children both printed and audio, original illustrations, psychologist’s commentaries, educative games, and also the illustrated Children’s Rights Convention in the Belarusian language.
Old Belarusian fairytales discovered in different regions of Belarus by famous musician Oleg Homenko are a unique collection of people’s heritage – Belarusian folklore. The fairytales were presented to UNESCO. The project “Folk Fairytales for Children” has become the result of joint work within the framework of UNICEF program “Early Child Development”.
Within the framework of the event, 2 500 copies of the book were handed to the National Library of Belarus and to all children’s libraries of the Republic of Belarus.
In the event participated: representative of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in the Republic of Belarus Yuri Oksamitny, Director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky, UNICEF ambassador of goodwill and opera star Maria Gulegina, and musician and leader of folk group Palace Oleg Homenko.
As part of the event, an exhibition of illustrations for the book “Folk Fairytales for Children” preformed by artist Yulia Ruditskaya opened at the gallery Rakurs. Since November 20 the exposition is located in the mobile gallery of the National Library of Belarus.
