On April 9th, the National Library hosted a presentation of the collection Motherland. Unity. Victory (the publishing house “Zvyazda”) timed to the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory.
The book appeared in February, 2015. The collection prepared by the publishing house “Zvyazda” in cooperation with the Minsk Regional Division of the Union of Writers of Belarus contains short stories, essays and verses by 44 Belarusian writers who have expressed their own view of the Great Patriotic War.
At the opening ceremony deputy director of the National Library of Belarus Alexander Susha emphasized the importance of the edition in memory of the war which was especially valuable in the year of the 70th anniversary of the Victory, and expressed his gratitude to the publishing house for the book which would assist in youth education.
The event gathered authors, members of the Regional Division of the Union of Writers of Belarus Irina Kornoukhova, Elena Stelmakh, Victor Kozhura, Boris Dolgotovich. Writer, editor in chief of the magazine Gaspadynja Zinovi Prigodich said the book was especially interesting and versatile.
Contemporary Belarusian literature does not remain indifferent to military thematic because the scales of that tragedy are enormous for our people. The war had touched almost each family and therefore our duty is to remember the great feat of our ancestors.
Guests of the event enjoyed author’s verses and musical compositions performed by Dmitri Kraskovsky, Elena Radkevich, Vladimir Tsenunin.
As part of the event, the National Library arranged an exhibition-viewing of books by Belarusian writers about the war and the unity of nations in their struggle for the Victory.
