Pinsk is a very special Belarusian towns with a rich historical past, the original capital of the Belarusian Polesie.

The town over the river Pina has a story to tell and something to show. Tourists from Belarus and other countries, all those who know and love European history, architecture and culture are attracted by Pinsk. The center of gravity is architectural monuments and temples of different times.

The town is known for famous natives. American economist, winner of the Nobel Prize in economics Simon Kuznets, essayist and poet Richard Kapustinsky, architect Ivan Zheltovsky, Orthodox leader Leonid Karpovich were born in Pinsk. Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Albrecht Radziwill, Russian poet Alexander Blok, poet and historian Adam Narushevich, and Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir lived here. The first Israeli President, Chaim Azriel Weizmann, learned at Pinsk Real School. The Belarusian classic, Yakub Kolas, taught at the parish school, in 1912–1915.

As the Cultural Capital of Belarus 2019, Pinsk will host some 400 national and regional creative projects, actions and forums that will reveal the cultural identity of the town and a variety of local traditions. Festivals of organ and sacred music, author’s song festivals, and international festival of brass bands are scheduled. The "Dawn of Pina" festival of amateur art and the "Crossroads" festival of street art will be held in summer as part of a long-term project "Pinsk Strolls". It is planned to hold a library literary marathon and regional drawing competition "Architectural Heritage of Pinsk". Especially significant monuments will get a QR-code. Belarusian Polesie Museum will prepare a series of exhibitions "Secrets of Pinsk Land." Lovers of performing arts will enjoy theatrical days, which will be held in Pinsk District. Excursions, concerts and exhibitions are scheduled as well.

"Soldier's Fate": on the 100th anniversary of Vasil Bykov and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from Nazi invaders

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the People's writer of Belarus, publicist and screenwriter Vasil Vladimirovich Bykov.
On this occasion, the National Library has prepared an anniversary exhibition "Soldier's fate", which highlights the great influence on the work of the Belarusian writer of his participation in the Great Patriotic War.
