The International exhibition project “The Roerich Pact. History and modernity” will open in the National Library, on December 7th.
The project is dedicated to the International Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments. Its initiator and inspirer was the outstanding Russian painter, philosopher, humanist and public figure Nicholas Roerich.
The Treaty was signed in Washington in 1935 by representatives of twenty-one states and formed the basis of modern international legal system for the protection of world cultural heritage.
The initiator of the exhibition project "The Roerich Pact. History and modernity” is the International Centre of the Roerichs (ICR).
The exhibition consists of 6 parts and includes about 180 exhibits: photographs, reproductions of paintings by Nicholas Roerich, banners, informational texts to each section of the exhibition, samples of the ICR publications.
An important feature of this exhibition is a special section dedicated to the destruction and restoration of monuments of culture of the Republic of Belarus.
