On April 19–20, at the Institute for Professional Training in Mechanical Engineering and Instrument-Making Industry (Korolyov, Moscow Region) took place an international scientific-practical conference “Paper document scanning: evaluation and quality control”.
The conference theme was the questions of control of paper document scanning quality, studying of the current practice of scanning and scanning technical demands in libraries, archives and other organizations accumulating documents on paper media.
The aim of the conference was to generalize the experience in the field of scanning, to create a working group for preservation of documentary heritage through scanning, and, in the future, to develop international scanning quality standards.
The Republic of Belarus was represented at the conference by N.G. Kostyukevich who delivered the report ”The experience in production of electronic copies of printed documents at the National Library of Belarus: methods of scanning of various document types and scanning technical demands”.
Participants of the conference exchanged opinions concerning the expected further steps on the way to standardization of scanning technical demands. Preparation for the development of methodical recommendations for scanning and promotion of the concepts of standardization in this sphere among librarians at the conference "Crimea-2011" had been recognized as the most urgent tasks.
