The international scientific conference "Rumyantsev Readings – 2021" was held at the Russian State Library on April 21. It was organized by the Russian State Library together with the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Non-Profit Partnership "Eurasia Library Assembly".
The conference traditionally discusses the preservation and study of the world cultural heritage, the problems of the library functioning at the present stage and the search for promising ways of development, the expansion of intercultural interaction and cooperation between the institutions of culture, education and science.
Mr Aleksander Samarin, Deputy Director-General for Science and Publishing of the Russian State Library, Mr Mikhail Afanasiev, President of the Russian Library Association, and Mr Raman Matulski, Director-General of the National Library of Belarus and President of the Non-Profit Partnership "Eurasia Library Assembly" greeted the guests of the conference greeted. In his video address, Mr Matulski stressed the cultural and historical affinity of Russia and Belarus, noting that the count Rumyantsev's activity was “the brightest example of interpenetration and mutual development of the two cultures”.
Specialists of the Russian State Library, Russian National Library, National Library of Belarus and National Library of the Kyrgyz Republic took part in the plenary meeting. The issues of digitization and open access to the book monuments, scientific activity of libraries, and the work of libraries in the period of pandemic were discussed. Mr Aliaksandr Susha, Deputy Director General – Director of Research and Publishing Activities represented our Library. Mr Susha described the experience of the National Library in creation of theState Register of Book Monuments of the Republic of Belarus, the key national resource, which ensures recording, preservation, description and systematization of the information about the book monuments of the country.
