Alaiksandr Suša, the Deputy Director of the National Library of Belarus, took part in the international forum “National libraries and a common information space of the CIS: modern challenges and prospects of development” in Moscow.


The forum, which was held on 12–13 April in the Russian State Library, gathered statesmen, culture experts, managers and leading specialists of the national libraries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The meeting was timed to the 25th anniversary of the CIS and the Year of Education in the CIS. The main organizer of the forum was the Library Assembly of Eurasia.

Participants of the forum were welcomed by Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly of States – participants of the CIS A. Sergeev, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on the Commonwealth of Independent States, Eurasian Integration and links with compatriots L. Slutsky, Executive Director of the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS member states A. Iksanov.

Within the frameworks of the forum, two round tables were held: “Library-information space of the CIS: the current state and prospects” and “Library education in the CIS member states: the current state and problems”.

Alaiksandr Suša gave a presentation on the system of continuous library education in Belarus. He also participated in the discussions on the implementation of the foundations of the state cultural policy of the Russian Federation and the prospects for the development of a similar document in Belarus.

Participants noted the mutual usefulness and effectiveness of the international scientific conferences and educational programs in the CIS countries, with the support of executive authorities on Culture and Education of the Commonwealth countries. Summing up the event, two resolutions were prepared. They enclosed the most important provisions and recommendations suggested during the discussions which took place within the frameworks of the forum meetings.
