The class "Book frames" for children and their parents in the "Book Professors’ Club" was held on February 25 in the Book Museum.
The participants of the meeting learned that the binding had always been an important part of the book. For its long history, it has had several stages of development both in technical and in art aspects. Therefore, the binding studying can give very valuable information about the book.
The binding was primarily intended to hold the pages of the book together, protecting the book from damages and time influence. However over time it became an element of decoration. During the class the unique frames of books were demonstrated, some of them are monuments of the book art of some ages
What do we see first when we come to the shelves of home or public libraries? Of course, the book covers. Each is unique in its own way, each has its own story... Participants of the classes learned to "read" the bindings of old printed and rare editions.
The event was held in an accessible and fascinating form through dialogue, games and creativity.
