The National Library of Belarus has summarized the results of the year in the professional environment of publishers, polygraphists and distributors.
Organizers: the Ministry of Information of the Republic of Belarus, the National Library of Belarus, and the National Book Chamber of Belarus.
The event began with the opening of the “Books 2019” exhibition. For the first time, the entire “palette” of Belarusian book publishing for 2019 is presented at the National Library. This year, more than 500 business entities, engaged in publishing, have issued 9,000 books in over 20 million copies.
Vladimir Korotkevich’s Spikes Under Your Sickle (in Belarusian: Каласы пад сярпом тваім) is the most popular book in 2019. This and other publications can be found in exhibition room 104.
At the end of the year, the ceremony was held in the “Knowledge Diamond” to award teams, employees and partners of the industry. Deputy Minister of Information Igor Buzovsky and director of the National Library of Belarus Roman Motulsky handed out awards.
Pupils of the Belynichi Boarding School for Orphans and Children Deprived of Parental Care received as a gift the best Belarusian children's books published in 2019. The book donation was part of the New Year charity campaign titled “Our Children.”
“Pesnyar,” a performance dedicated to People's Artist of the USSR Vladimir Muliavin and played by actors of the Belarusian Gorky Academic Drama Theater was a pleasant surprise for the audience.
