It’s very difficult to surprise a person in the 21st century. But there are wonders that do not stop surprising us. And the miniature book belongs to them. Children created “books-thumbelinas” with their own hands at the museum lessons.
Miniature books take a little space in a pocket or a bag. They are tenderly called “miniatures”, “dwarfish editions”, “Lilliputians”, “baby books”… Professionals value the miniature book as a sample of the art of book printing, and amateurs like its unusualness. Creation of mini books demands a highest level of skill.
Where can we find “books-thumbelinas”? Of course, in museums! The Book Museum presents minibook Wonder of Wonders (Moscow, 1985) of size 6х9 mm. Portraits of A. Pushkin and M. Gorky and their quotes about books are printed on 24 pages in 5 languages. There are Belarusian miniature editions of prose and poetry of A. Mitskevich, Y. Kupala, Y. Kolas, M. Bogdanovich, V. Bykov, R. Borodulin, etc.
It’s possible to make a miniature book with your own hands at the museum lessons in the National Library of Belarus.
