On December 10, a delegation of the National Library of Indonesia, led by the Director, Muhammad Syarif Bando, visited the “Diamond of Knowledge”.

The Memorandum of Understanding in the field of library and information services between the two countries was signed during the meeting. The Director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, noted that the signed document is a good reason to establish closer interaction with the National Library of Indonesia. “We are always interested in strengthening cooperation and cultural ties with foreign libraries, cultural and educational institutions,” he emphasized.

Recall that last June a ceremony was held to donate to the Indonesian side a facsimile edition of The Book Heritage of Francysk Skaryna, which was the first step in establishing cooperation.

The Director of the National Library of Indonesia thanked for the warm welcome organized by the Belarusian side and expressed confidence that their visit to Minsk would only strengthen bilateral ties between the libraries of Belarus and Indonesia.

During the tour, the delegation was introduced to the history, architectural features, as well as the treasures of the “Diamond of Knowledge” book collections. Visiting exhibition galleries and reading rooms allowed guests to fully appreciate the potential possessed by the National Library as the country's largest socio-cultural and information center.

It will be interesting: The National Library of Indonesia was established in 1980 and combined four different libraries. It retains the status of a non-departmental state institution and is directly subordinated to the President of Indonesia. The earliest collections belong to the collections of the library of the National Museum, opened in 1868 and previously belonged to the Royal Batavian Society of Arts and Sciences.

The new library building, opened in 2017, was planned in accordance with the concepts of “green building” and is considered the tallest library building in the world (127 meters high).

One of the main functions of the National Library of Indonesia today is the development of the library network throughout the country (there are more than 164 thousand libraries). The library is primarily a humanities library. There is the Center for Scientific Documentation and Information, the Centre for Agricultural Library and Technology Dissemination, the Library of the Bandung Institute of Technology and the University of Indonesia Medical Faculty Library.
