The joint seminar of the National Library of Belarus and the Brest Regional Library named after M. Gorky "Libraries and Book Culture of Belarus: from Past to Future" took place on April 10 in the framework of the Year of Native Land.
The event was attended by leaders and specialists of libraries, museums and other cultural and educational institutions of the region.
Director of the National Library of Belarus, Doctor of Pedagogy, Professor Roman Motulsky reported on “Trends and features of the development of the book culture of Belarus in the 11th – 20th centuries. in the context of common European and national history”. The students got acquainted with the characteristics of each historical period of development of the Belarusian statehood and the factors that had a decisive influence on the development of the book culture of Belarus. Then the participants discussed a number of problematic issues in the activities of modern libraries.
Within the framework of the charity event “Reading is the Field of Information and Knowledge”, Roman Motulsky donated 500 copies of fiction, encyclopedic, reference, popular science and educational literature to libraries of the Brest region.
