On March 6, the National Library of Belarus donated 600 copies of fiction, educational and reference publications and other literature to the Rural Library in Klimovka, Gomel Region. The event was part of the Reading Is the Field of Information and Knowledge Charity Campaign.

In October last year, a fire occurred in the library, and about 5 thousand copies of books, brochures, periodicals and other documents were destroyed.

Librarian Antonina Zhigalova speaks warmly about each reader and the work she does for the locals. For more than five years, the Stimulus Club has worked at the library under the motto “When the soul is young, then the age is nothing but a number”. The club is attended by veterans, pensioners, disabled people who come here to get acquainted with new literature, talk about the local history, remember their fellow villagers and celebrate holidays together.

The library in the village is a place that is visited with pleasure by both the elderly and children, teenagers and young adults. After all, here you can not only read and communicate, but also take part in social and cultural events such as meetings with interesting people, actions, contests, quizzes, literary and musical evenings ...

Today, the library takes shelter in the clubhouse, but residents continue to visit it to discuss what they have read, talk about the daily life and, together with librarian Antonina, dream about that happy time when the building will be restored.

The National Library of Belarus hopes that soon the rural library will be rebuilt and open to readers. However, the recovery of book collections needs efforts from all citizens. We thank all those who did not remain indifferent and have already transferred literature to the National Library within the framework of the Reading Is the Field of Information and Knowledge Charity Campaign.

The charity campaign continues. We invite all concerned to join!
