What was the technology of image printing four centuries ago and has it survived? Is it possible to recreate the work of an engraver in present conditions?
You can find the answers to these questions in “The Recreated Masterpiece” exhibition held at the National Library of Belarus. A unique copper plate of the 17th century with the recreated from it portrait engraving of Jan III Sabieski made using ancient technology will be presented for the first time.
The unique exhibit is presented from the private collection of the collector Aleg Sudliankou.
We prepared not only an exhibition, but also a curious video with a step-by-step engraving recreation process using the rare plate of the 17th century. In the frame is Mr Viktar Sauchanka, graphic artist, who “brought to life” printing technology of the engraving art in his studio for us.
The artist’s work is enchanting. Check it out and follow the process of the masterpiece recreation.
The exhibition "The Recreated Masterpiece" will run at the Book Museum (room 347) until May 30, 2021.
