An official ceremony of handing over the collection of Belarusian books to the National Library of the Republic of Moldova took place on September 30. The certificate of transfer of books was handed over by Ms Elena Dolgopolova, First Deputy Director General of the National Library of Belarus to Mr Viktor Sorochan, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Belarus.

The event took place within the framework of the international project "Belarus Today", implemented by the National Library of Belarus together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus since 2010. The collection includes the best literary, scientific, popular science publications, encyclopedias, reference books and photo albums. To date, the collections of Belarusian publications have been transferred to twenty-three largest libraries in the world.

In her welcoming speech, Ms Elena Dolgopolova stressed that the collection of Belarusian books in the National Library of the Republic of Moldova will contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about Belarus and strengthen international cultural ties between the two countries.

The Ambassador noted the importance and timeliness of the initiative of the Belarusian side, stressing also the interest in the further development of cooperation, and donated books from Moldovan publishing houses to the National Library of Belarus collections.

At the end of the event, Mr Viktor Sorochan got acquainted with the library's socio-cultural projects for the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945: large-scale exhibition projects “Great Victory” and “War and Peace. Belarus remembers. The Return."
