On December 17, with the support of the Consulate General of the Republic of Belarus in Istanbul, took place a meeting between the Director of the National Library of Belarus, Roman Motulsky, and Mahmut Ak, the rector of the oldest in Turkey Istanbul University, founded in 1453.
The parties discussed educational cooperation and collaboration opportunities.
Roman Motulsky donated to the university the facsimile edition of the Bukvar (The Primer), as well as a copy of a fragment of the Tatar Kitab from the collections of the National Library of Belarus.
In order to develop further interaction, a Protocol on cooperation between the Istanbul University and the Diamond of Knowledge was signed.
At the meeting with the Director of Istanbul University Library, Dr. Pervin Bezirci, the parties discussed the prospects for collaboration and agreed to promote joint research projects, organize mutual visits, conferences, seminars, workshops and exhibitions, exchange scientific documents.
The foundation of the Istanbul University Library dates back to the middle of the 15th century, the time of the university foundation in 1453 by Sultan Fatih Mehmet. The library has a collection of thousands of the Middle Ages manuscripts. There are about 65 thousand book titles in Turkish, Arabic, Farsi, Latin, etc. in the collection of rare and early printed books.
Visits of the Director of the National Library of Belarus to the Presidential and National Libraries of Turkey are scheduled for December 18.
